History
The Family Resource Center was founded and incorporated September 1999. The Center was granted non-profit and registered charity status in May 2000.
The Center's original mission was to provide support services - parent presentations, support groups for parents, individual and family counseling and school advocacy services for parents of children with learning disabilities - specifically Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD).
By 2002, in response to the needs and requests of parents, a Social Skills program was developed and implemented for elementary school-aged children.
In 2003, an Empathy Program pilot-project was established and implemented in three elementary schools; this program was later combined with the pre-existing Social Skills program.
By 2005, the Family Resource Center expanded its support services to meet the needs of all children who were having academic and social difficulties. Further, a Study Skills program was developed to be implemented in elementary schools.
Currently, Social and Study Skills programs are being offered in schools and in the community in small groups and through specialized individual programs. Support services are also provided to parents and professionals.
