History
The
Family Resource Center was founded in September of 1999 and
incorporated as a non-profit company in May of 2000.
Our organization strives to assist children and families
affected by learning and behavioral problems. Our goal is to
offer a variety of services specifically designed to
increase parental competence and teach children social and
study skills. We also offer professional development
workshops which teach educational and recreational staffs
new ways to promote success.
In
2003, the Center was the recipient of the Montreal Chamber
of Commerce award for Non-Profit Organization. The Center is
a teaching establishment and has welcomed students from
McGill University, Concordia University and Dawson College.
Our
Mandate
Our wish is to enable
all children, parents, and professionals the ability
to develop new skills and attitudes that will increase their
competence in school, in the workplace, at home and in their
communities. The Center’s role is to act as an outlet for
families to obtain information, gain skills and coping
mechanisms and teach children how to develop into
responsible and successful adults. Our staff works alongside
parents and professionals in order to cater to a child’s
individual needs and learning style. Our desire is to be
able to offer all our programs to all “families whether
the children have received an official assessment or not. No
one is refused services here because of their financial
situation, religion or cultural backgrounds.
Our
Facilitators
Each group has 2 facilitators with teaching and/or
recreational work experience specializing in children’s
behavioral or learning disabilities.
